Luckily, these areas are few and far between, so it’s not too big of a deal. A couple of places are really just one brownish colour and have no real gameplay beyond jumping and some rather boring puzzles. First of all, although I love the minimalistic art style, and it works excellently in most cases, there are a few areas that are a bit bland. Clear objectives make sure you won’t get stuck or lost, and quirky little boss fights and challenging platforming sections help keep the game fresh from start to finish.īut, of course, there are a fair few things that could be changed and improved. This game has somehow achieved the perfect balance between a strong story and lots of time to explore freely. Each weird, armless villager has their own unique thing to say and story to tell. The story and dialogue of Pikuniku is just excellent. There’s even an NPC to play against in single player mode, or you can battle a friend using the two Joy Cons or two pro controllers if you have them. There’s also a mini game called Baskick, where you literally kick a watermelon around a pitch and into a goal. There are lots of collectibles to find and hats to be worn. I absolutely love roaming around the villages, meeting new NPCs, and seeing what side quests they had for me. Then you are released out into the world to explore and enjoy the game!Īlthough you can’t access every area straight away, there’s still a bunch of exploring to be done. You wake up in a dark cave where you’ll learn to run, jump, kick, and swing from hooks. You can play as them both in the cooperative mode, which I’ll come on to in a minute, but in the main game Piku is your guy. Pikuniku is a fun little platform adventure from Devolver Digital. You play as a little red character called Piku, but there’s also an orangy yellow version of you called Niku. The world is strange, but playful with a straightforward story to tell. In adventure mode, you play as Piku, a feared “beast”, who turns out to not be that scary at all and help all the people who were once afraid of you. The couch coop has you play as either Piku or Niku in a number of challenging levels where the goal is to get the best completion time possible.įor the most part, you’ll just want to play the adventure story mode while following this guide to make sure you don’t miss anything. Pay special attention to the collectibles along the way and make sure to not miss any of the missable achievements (“ Suprematism”, “ Dancing machine”, " Right under your feet”, & “ Collector”) or you’ll need to start another whole playthrough. Once you’ve had your fill of single player, hop over to the coop to pick up the coop specific achievements (“ You’re not helping” & “ Gotta go fast”). You shouldn’t have anything to mop up unless you missed any of those missable achievements. Restart your game and grab anything you missed to get your 1000:1gs. Pikuniku is a fun, cute, and strange adventure from the purveyors of fun, cute, and strange games. Plus, another quick completion who could complain?
